The announcement follows a meeting between President Zelenskyy and Army Chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, during which Zelenskyy acknowledged the senior general's importance and suggested that he should remain "on his team." However, Zelenskyy strongly emphasized the imperative for changes within the military's leadership structure. This declaration by Zelenskyy comes after days of conjecture surrounding the possible dismissal of the well-regarded army leader, who has garnered acclaim as a national hero for his pivotal role in steering the war effort since February 2022.

Zelenskyy, in a statement on the Telegram platform, shed light on discussions regarding the renewal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and potential shifts in leadership. He underscored the urgency of this renewal, asserting that the time for such changes is now.
In a separate release, it was disclosed that Zaluzhnyi, following a "significant and serious conversation" with Zelenskyy, opted to adjust combat tactics and strategy. His statement on Telegram highlighted the necessity for individuals to adapt to the evolving realities of 2022 tasks, distinct from those of 2024. The overarching objective is to foster collective efforts toward achieving victory.
