In a significant development with potential implications for political alliances in Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has opted to align with the NDA, as per information received by Times Now. The decision transpired during a late-night meeting between TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Home Minister Amit Shah at Shah's residence. A formal announcement on the alliance is expected after Naidu confers with actor-turned-politician and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, his electoral partner.
The extended meeting, spanning from 11.30 pm to 1 am, focused on seat-sharing for both state and upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Sources reveal emphasis on establishing a three-party alliance for both assemblies and Lok Sabha, with Amit Shah aiming to secure over 380 seats. Shah urged Naidu to join the NDA, citing ideological alignment and minimal differences between TDP and BJP. The BJP intends to contest six Lok Sabha seats, strategically targeting areas traditionally supportive of the TDP.
Naidu conveyed the desire to allocate seats for Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena party, proposing two Lok Sabha seats and 30 assembly seats during the meeting. This move underscores the intricate negotiations and strategic considerations in shaping the evolving political landscape in Andhra Pradesh.
The BJP has indicated its desire to compete in 10 assembly seats, according to sources.
Following the deliberations, Naidu departed from Shah's residence by 1 am, catching a 9 am flight to Vijayawada.
Naidu is anticipated to convene with Pawan Kalyan and other senior party figures to discuss the talks with Shah.
