Israel and the United States Ready to Invest $4 Million in Projects to Secure Critical Infrastructure.

Government organizations in Israel and the US have announced intentions to invest close to $4 million in initiatives aimed at enhancing the security of vital infrastructure systems.

Government agencies in the US and Israel have made plans to invest $3.85 million in initiatives aimed at enhancing the security of vital infrastructure in both nations.

The investment is made through the BIRD Cyber Program, a collaborative effort of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T), the Israel-US Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation, and the Israel National Cyber Directorate (INCD).

Four grants will be given out as part of the program for security initiatives focusing on the maritime, airport, and air traffic sectors as well as industrial control systems (ICS).

A solution for ICS vulnerability management, monitoring, and recovery will be developed by Salvador Technologies and Bastazo, while Rescana and Trend Micro will work on a threat intelligence capability for the maritime industry. Cyber 2.0 and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will create a system for cyber visibility, monitoring, and data traffic detection.

The fourth project will concentrate on developing a cyber defense system that will protect airports from all potential attack surfaces.

These projects, which were submitted in response to the initial BIRD Cyber RFP, were accepted following a thorough evaluation by DHS S&T, INCD, and the BIRD Foundation.

The overall cost of these initiatives will rise to almost $10 million with private sector assistance.

According to DHS S&T director Megan Mahle, "the first year of the BIRD Cyber program has yielded projects that will deliver cutting-edge solutions to urgent cybersecurity challenges facing the U.S. and Israel."

The BIRD Foundation works with organizations to find new strategic partners while also awarding funding for initiatives that have been accepted in order to encourage cooperation between US and Israeli businesses.

The foundation contributes up to 50% of the cash for any authorized project in exchange for royalties from sales of the goods produced with the help of BIRD. If the project is not successful in reaching the sales stage, no refund is necessary.
