US And Ukrainian Officials Close Cryptocurrency Exchanges

Nine websites that provided cryptocurrency exchange services to online criminals have been taken down by authorities in the US and Ukraine.
The FBI’s Virtual Currency Response squad (VCRT) squad, the National Police of Ukraine, and the Prosecutor General of Ukraine collaborated to carry out the takedowns.
The targeted domains are 24xbtc.com, 100btc.pro, pridechange.com, 101crypta.com, uxbtc.com, trust-exchange.org, bitcoin24.exchange, paybtc.pro, and owl.gold. Visitors to these sites are now informed that they have been taken over by authorities.
Authorities assert that in addition to seizing the domain names, they also shut down any related servers, including those based in the US.
Noncompliant virtual currency exchanges, which have a lax anti-money laundering programme or collect minimal Know Your Customer information or none at all, serve as important hubs in the ecosystem for cybercrime and are operating in violation of Title 18 United States Code, Sections 1960 and 1956,” the DoJ stated.
On criminal forums, the targeted cryptocurrency exchanges advertised themselves and provided support in both English and Russian.
The illegal currency conversion services were frequently employed by ransomware organisations as well as other sorts of con artists.
According to Ukrainian authorities, efforts are presently being made to identify those responsible for the criminal activities.
This week, law enforcement agencies from all over the world announced the closure of the “Monopoly Market” dark web drug market and the arrests of nearly 300 users who were allegedly buying and selling drugs there.
