Google Wants Android Users to Have More Control Over Their Data

This week, Google revealed intentions to give Android users more control over their data by requiring app developers to enable data erasure both within the app and online.
The project is a long-standing effort to increase user confidence by mandating developers to publish transparent information about their applications' privacy and security practises. It is anticipated to go into effect around the end of the year.

By forcing developers to "provide an option to initiate account and data deletion from within the app and online," Google claims that the new data deletion policy would provide users more control over their data.
Users will be able to request account and data deletion without having to reinstall the application thanks to the web requirement, which developers will have to connect in their data safety form.
The Google Play data safety section already provides information on the possibilities for data deletion, but the future feature will make it simpler for users to do so.
According to Google, "by making this policy more intuitive, we hope to better inform our shared users on the data controls available to them and foster greater trust in your apps and in Google Play more generally."
When a request is made after the new policy goes into effect, developers will have to erase both the account and the data connected to it. Users will have the option to opt out of a full account cancellation and simply have some data deleted.
When specific data needs to be maintained for a reasonable amount of time, such as fraud prevention, security, or regulatory compliance, developers will also need to provide clear disclosures about their data retention policies.
Google is requiring developers to respond to new data deletion questions in the data safety forms for their applications as a first step. The deadline for submissions is December 7 2023.
Early in the following year, Google Play's application listings will start to change as a result of the new policy. These will include an updated data deletion badge in the data safety section as well as a new data deletion area.
On the Data Deletion help centre page, developers may get further details on these changes.
