Google To Launch A New AI Powered Search Engine

Despite being perceived as lagging behind in the artificial intelligence (AI) race, Google's CEO Sundar Pichai has emphasized that prioritizing being the "first" is not the company's goal. Rather, he has pointed out that the company is focused on improving their AI offerings through more advanced LLM models. According to a recent report, Google's parent company Alphabet is reportedly developing a new AI-powered search engine and implementing AI features to update their existing search engine.

A New Search Engine
As per the report, the upcoming search engine aims to offer users a more personalized experience by anticipating their needs, which is a significant improvement over the current service provided by the company. However, it is still in the early stages of development, and there is no fixed timeline for its release at the moment.

Reportedly, the system will learn what users want to know based on what they’re searching. The search engine is said to offer lists of preselected options for objects to buy, information to research and other information – in a conversational way.
Google is also said to be working on new AI features to be added in its current search engine. They are expected to make their debut next month. It is to be noted that Google’s annual I/O conference is taking place on May 10. The event has historically seen the announcement of AI features that have been integrated in the following months.

Google testing new AI features under project "Magi"
The report noted that the new features are being created by designers, engineers and executives under the project name Magi. They are also said to be working on tweaking and testing the versions. Google has more than 160 people working full time on it, the report cited a person with knowledge of the work as saying.
“Magi would keep ads in the mix of search results. Search queries that could lead to a financial transaction, such as buying shoes or booking a flight, for example, would still feature ads on their results pages,” the report said.

This is an important aspect for Google because the company’s primary business is advertising. Furthermore, it is also reported that the planned features will also “answer questions about software coding and write code based on a user’s request.”
The report claims that Google invited some employees to test Magi’s features and judge its ability to hold a conversation by asking cross-questions. The planning document reportedly mentioned that Google is expected to release the tools to the public next month and add more features in the fall.

“The company plans to initially release the features to a maximum of one million people. That number should progressively increase to 30 million by the end of the year. The features will be available exclusively in the United States,” the report said.
